Our Story

Are you passionate about giving back to your community? Have you made a commitment to contributing your time or resources to local charities and the arts? If this is something you whole-heartedly believe in, then you might seek out businesses that do the same. When your family chooses Lumis Portraits, you are giving back to your local community. We have made a commitment to giving back to organizations dear to us and the greater Seattle community.

The word lumis is derived from the Latin word lumen meaning "light of life," which has often been translated to mean world, people or humanity. Lumis itself is a verb meaning "to shine." The mission of Lumis Portraits is to be a shining light in the world through humanitarian aid.

Heather and Krista created Lumis Portraits with their passion for the arts in mind. Heather graduated from art school in 2003 and has been working in the portait industry since 2010. Krista is a U.S. Army combat veteran whose art history background led her to the love of her life.

Lumis Portraits seeks to make the world smile through handcrafted art pieces. One of a kind treasures transforming your family into works of art for generations to come. When hanging your custom art piece in your home, your family's story will come to life everyday.

Our Art

When you go to a museum and you see all these exquisite portraits on the wall, we often think of them as art for art's sake. The reality is that many of these paintings were commissioned by families to capture their loved ones for posterity. After surviving for centuries we are now able to look back and see what once was. More often today people view art as an abstract and no longer consider a portrait of their family to be worthy of the word art.

Lumis Portraits endeavors to bring back to life a classic approach to portraiture. A meticulously handpainted canvas background sets the stage accented with antique furnishings. Your initial portrait is captured using a traditional photographic process, and the artist is then able to apply various levels of artistry to the portrait creating a one of a kind art piece.

To create that one of a kind museum classic style for your family portrait, we offer a collection from Museum Classic Frames. These frames are historically accurate and hand finished by master craftsmen with gold leafing and antiquing.
